Denmark’s oldest mental hospital

Established in 1816 Denmark’s oldest mental hospital overlooks Roskilde Fjord in scenic, protected surroundings, with ramparts from the bishop of Roskilde’s residence in Bistrup still visible.

The renowned Golden Age architect behind Thorvaldsens Museum, Gottlieb Bindesbøll, designed the complex of hospital buildings.

Exhibitions and guided tours

The museum, located in the basement of the Kurhus building in the western part of the hospital, presents the history of Sct. Hans and exhibits artworks produced by psychiatric patients.

Enjoy a guided tour of the museum and coffee at Sct. Hans Have café.
